01

Drywall Finish - Level 1

Drywall finishing level 1 is the first step in creating a smooth and seamless surface for any construction or renovation project that involves drywall and gypsum boards. This level involves embedding drywall joint tape in the joint compound at the seams, without any further finishing. While it may seem like a small step, it is crucial for ensuring a strong and durable foundation for the rest of the finishing levels.

02

Drywall Finish - Level 2

Drywall finish level 2 is a great option when preparing walls for tiling. This level means that a thin coat of joint compound has been applied over the tape and drywall screw holes. It is perfect for areas that will be covered with tile or for spaces with minimal activity that will be used for storage or as a workshop.

03

Drywall Finish - Level 3

Drywall finish level 3 is an important step in the process of finishing drywall. Before reaching level 3, drywall finishers apply joint compound to the tape and screws at levels 1 and 2. At level 3, the joint compound is applied more heavily to create a smooth surface that is ready for heavy textured finishes such as knockdown texture. It is worth noting that there are additional levels beyond level 3 for walls that require a smoother finish.

04

Drywall Finish - Level 4

Drywall finish level 4 is the most commonly obtained finish in construction and renovation projects. It involves applying another coat of joint compound to the tape and screws, followed by sanding the dried compound. This level of finish is ideal for surfaces that will be painted or covered with wallpaper, providing a smooth and even appearance.

05

Drywall Finish - Level 5

Drywall finish level 5 is the ultimate level of smoothness for walls and ceilings. It involves applying a skim coat of joint compound to the entire desired surface area, covering the entire wall or ceiling in plaster, to achieve a flawless finish. This level of finish is recommended for areas with direct sunlight or powerful lights, where any bumps or depressions would be highlighted.
